PHILADELPHIA, PA – SMG President and CEO Wes Westley announced today that John Burns, Mike Evans and Maureen Ginty have been promoted to Executive Vice President. Says Westley, “John, Mike and Maureen have been critical members of my team and SMG for more than a decade. This new position recognizes their contributions. In their capacity, they will continue to report to me, providing advice and support as we move SMG forward to bigger and greater things.”
John Burns, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
John has been with SMG since 1982. John is responsible for all corporate accounting as well as the Risk Management and Management Information Systems Departments of the company. John's departments are responsible for corporate financial reporting, including the preparation of monthly financial statements, the annual corporate budget, the annual financial statement certified by independent accountants, monthly cash forecasting reports and various tax returns, including Partnership Tax Forms. His departments are also responsible for the company's Contract Administrator for all management and subcontractor contracts.
Michael R. Evans, Executive Vice President Sports and Entertainment
Mike came to SMG in 1998 and was given the responsibility for all of the bookings in the various SMG Stadiums, Arenas and Theaters. With a background as a Concert Promoter and Tour Manager, Mike interacts with various Sports League commissioners, Concert Producers, Tour Promoters and Talent Agents that keep SMG facilities busy. He also oversees Six Regional Booking Managers and was instrumental in developing SMGBooking.com, our proprietary Event Booking System.
Maureen Ginty, Executive Vice President Marketing Services and Human Resources
Maureen joined SMG in 1991 assuming responsibility for human resources as Vice President of Human Resources. She was named Senior Vice President of Human Resources in 1993. In 1996, her responsibilities were increased to include the Public Relations, Advertising, and Presentation Development Services. Maureen's departments produce the RFPs for the company and have recently launched the very well received k'nekt sales and customer service training programs.
Westley also announced the promotion of Doug Thornton to Senior Vice President. Westley states, “Doug has done an excellent job, knows all sides of our industry and contributes to the betterment of SMG. In this new capacity, Doug will report directly to me.”

Based in New Orleans at the Louisiana Superdome, Doug Thornton joined SMG in 1997, overseeing seven (7) separate municipal accounts in the Gulf Coast Area. During his tenure at SMG, Thornton has been a leader in producing several high profile events including, two NFL Super Bowls, both the Men's and Women's NCAA Final Four, two BCS Championship football games, the Essence Music Festival, the annual Sugar Bowl Classic and many more. He is active in many community and industry organizations.
